Cantiko leverages assets worldwide to build diversity, but our primary concern is at home, in the oil fields of Alberta. Our vision makes the current state of the energy market a fertile ground for development — in assets and in professional talent. Cantiko is targeting major areas in Southern Alberta, each with distinct advantages. Acquisition and development of these areas means investment in Alberta’s economy: creating jobs, generating revenue and improving the oil & gas economy.
Building a strong company in Alberta means building a stronger home.
Alberta has a world class resource of conventional oil and natural gas. Conventional oil is extracted from underground reservoirs using traditional drilling and pumping methods. Conventional oil is a liquid at atmospheric temperature and pressure, so it can flow through a wellbore and a pipeline – unlike bitumen (oil sands oil) which is too thick to flow without being heated or diluted. It’s easier and less expensive to recover conventional oil and it requires less processing after extraction.
Horizontal Drilling
Horizontal drilling began in Texas in the 1980s as a way to access oil and natural gas formations that were previously inaccessible. In horizontal drilling, a flexible drilling pipe is used with a steerable drill bit. Using this technology, it is possible to bend a vertical well at a target depth and then drill horizontally through the oil or natural gas deposits.
